Breast and Cervical Cancer Facts

  • One out of every eight women will develop breast cancer at some point during her life.
  • An estimated 207,090 women will be diagnosed and 39,840 women will die of breast cancer in the United States in 2010.
  • Regular mammograms among women aged 50-69 can lower the risk of dying from breast cancer.
  • 75% of breast and cervical cancers occur in women over 50.
  • An estimated 12,200 women will be diagnosed and 4,200 women will die of cervical cancer in the United States in 2010.
  • When cervical conditions are discovered and treated at a precancerous stage, the survival rate is nearly 100%.
  • The good news is routine screening and prompt treatment can reduce deaths from breast and cervical cancer.  Early detection works.
