You are at a greater risk for stroke if:

  • Your blood pressure is 140/90mm Hg or higher.
     
  • Your total blood cholesterol is greater than 200mg/dl.
     
  • You use tobacco products.
     
  • You drink too much alcohol.
     
  • You have heart disease.
     
  • You have diabetes.
     
  • You are overweight or obese. (see chart below)
     
  • You exercise less than 30 minutes a day five days a week.

Family history, age, gender, race and ethnicity can all play a role in your stroke risk

 

If you weigh as much or more than the listed weight for height, then you are considered obese:
